MISSION STATEMENT

The English School of Mongolia aims at delivering high calibre education while focusing on celebrating cultural and personal values. Supporting students’ educational, moral, social and spiritual needs, ESM creates a learning environment where the strengths of every child can be identified and nurtured.

While striving for academic excellence, ESM creates life-long learners, who are self-confident and well-organised independent thinkers, curious about the world around them. Recognising the community educates global citizens who will be the “change-makers” in Mongolia’s development.

ESM: The Leadership Team

ESM has a multi-talented and impressive range of teachers ensuring the whole curriculum is in the English Language, taught by an experienced staff with a mix of British, first-language English nationals and Mongolians with excellent English skills.

Graham Hill (Director)

Graham Hill has been Head of a variety of Independent Schools, arriving in Mongolia as the Founding Director of ESM, From Planning in 2010, leading to the School’s Opening in 2011. Supported by his wife, Gillie Hill, he has made Ulaanbaatar his home since that time.

Helen Bowen

(Head of Sixth Form)

Helen Bowen brings over 23 years of international educational experience to ESM, having worked in the UK, Africa, and Asia. Before joining ESM, she served as the founding Head of Upper School at Harrow Zhuhai, focusing on curriculum development and aligning programs with global standards. Well-versed in both the IB and CIE curricula, Helen believes that children thrive in safe environments. As the Designated Safeguarding Lead, she values strong parent and community relations to support student welfare and holistic development. Committed to fostering a culture of excellence, she sets ambitious goals to help every student succeed at ESM.

Batzorig Ganbaatar

(Head of Secondary School)

Batzorig Ganbaatar has been at ESM since 2017 after completing his MSc in Plant Genetics at Konkuk University in South Korea. He thrives on providing a safe and challenging educational environment that supports learning and achievement for all students.

Tania Bunge

(Head of Junior School)

Tania Bunge is a qualified primary school teacher with extensive experience teaching grades 1 through 6 in international and private schools in South Africa and abroad. Most recently, she taught Grade 1 at ESM, gaining unique insights into the school’s culture. As a mother and grandmother, she is dedicated to fostering a respectful and caring environment where students thrive academically, culturally, and socially. She values partnership, dedication, and open communication, believing that the best learning occurs in a collaborative setting.
