2 November 2020 Dear Parents, November has arrived, heralded as usual by the wonderful of array of Halloween costumes worn by the Pre and Junior School (and many staff too!) last Friday. It is colder and we are into week 2 of Term 2. The Gobi Resort Residential Trips have re-started with Grade 6 this week and Grades 7,9, and 10 to follow this term. The Grade 8 Trip in October was a great success. There are some excellent photos and reviews of this on our Facebook Page, ( https://www.facebook.com/englishschoolofmongolia ) and also film of the first two Better Together Concerts at the Opera House last month, including a highlight montage and The Seven Ages of Man Ballet on YouTube. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=azjoBiiV59Q) This week sees the Mongolian Cultural Assemblies and also the first…

Grade 8 Gobi Resort Trip

Before the autumn break, ESM took the grade-8 students on a four-day intensive study to Gobi Resort. So far, we had a wonderful four days there. After a brief meeting at the campus and lunch, we began our sessions with our teachers in the classroom and P.E gym. Although the weather here is colder than in the city, the air here is much cleaner. There was a nice balance between relaxation and learning. Our students had fun using the sports facilities, and the indoor and outdoor areas to develop themselves. After finishing long sessions on the second day, we had a volleyball tournament among all grade-8s and the winners were announced. On the third day, we started the day as usual and in the afternoon we went hiking around the…

Dear Parents, ESM has been back in action now for eight weeks and the School is coming together well, though we are still waiting for one or two Teachers to arrive- from quarantine. The daily pattern is well established, with Clubs running for four afternoons per week. Seven Prefects were given their badges on 1st of October. Also yesterday the annual presentation took place for retired and senior ESM Staff. Many Parents took the opportunity to come into School on Wednesday and Thursday for the first evenings of the year (very worthwhile get-togethers) and please continue to consult the Website Calendar and our Facebook page for notice of impending events. Volleyball matches recently, with ESM having narrowly the better of two well fought contests against Aspiration School. With the UBAC Tournament…

Dear Parents, We are into Week 2 of the new year: everyone enjoying being back in routine, now we have all got used to the early start times once more. It is all, I think, very well summarized, in the new Video just out: ESM: Together Again, which I hope you will enjoy. It captures the essence of renewed purpose and activity, so noticeable round the School. With lots of new faces, especially in Grade 1 where we have 4 Classes, there are 800 Students on the Roll. Some new Teachers too, including in reinforced Departments like Sports, Music and ICT - and with other Teachers at the Ramada Hotel, in quarantine, until they can return. The last few days have seen successful Countryside Days in the idyllic countryside next to…

Dear Parents, As you know, we have been running Warm-Up Phases 1 and 2 successfully over the last two weeks. Looking beyond this, the new School Year for ESM starts properly on Tuesday 1 September. Respecting the important safety issues arising from the Pandemic, we will not hold a traditional-style Opening Ceremony for Parents on that Morning. We have in mind a gathering for the larger ESM Family, once we are assured conditions are really right. Our Calendar for Term 1 includes Countryside Days, involvement with MKCC (The Mongolian Kuwait Conservation Centre) and we hope for a Charity Concert (details to follow). We will also be running some Parents’ Evening over the next few weeks, so that early in the year, Parents will have the opportunity to get to know…
