
150 years ago today, 9 June 1870, the greatest English novelist Charles Dickens died.
He was 58 and had worked all of the previous day on his novel “The Mystery of Edwin Drood”, left exactly half way through its composition, with 6 out of 12 instalments completed. Dickens’ popularity continues through Films, Musicals, the Books themselves and the characters invented by his imagination: Ebenezer, Scrooge, The Artful Dodger, Miss Havisham, Uriah Heep, Fagin, Madame Defarge, Smike, and hundreds more.
