15 April 2019
Dear Parents,

April has brought warm weather this week and much to report in the School Calendar. Last Friday and Saturday were our Open Days, complete with Fencing and Archery demonstrations outside, and nearly 200 signed up as visitors and interested parties during the two days. A Presentation, given 8 times, highlighted the special qualities of ESM, the Curriculum from Pre-School to Grade 12, our 20:20 Vision for the next eighteen months and, finally, details of Registration.

The 2 night Kharkhorin Exhibition last week was adjudged a great success and a new experience for many of the Grade 5 participants who had never spent a night in a Ger or indeed away from parents before. Meanwhile, our Sports Department were everywhere: mopping up two silver and three bronze medals in the Sukhbaatar District Taekwondo Tournament and with our Girls Gymnastics Team winning three silver and two bronze medals at the Mongolian National Championships in Erdenet. Our U15 Boys’ and Girls’ Teams won their Basketball matches against ISU by wide margins; all of our Girls’ Teams won their first matches in the Duulian Futsal City Tournament. In the UBAC Tournament, our U19 Boys’ and Girls’ Football teams both won First Place. The P.E. Department continues to blaze a trail!

Tomorrow through Thursday we have Interviews for Internal Scholarship applicants and write-ons and next week external candidates; the results are posted at the beginning of May.
This morning the Russian Department entertained Assembly with an effervescent mix of song and dance in their annual Festival. Over the last few days and into Week 5, we have hosted a major Maths Mock Exam in Kublai Hall for 30 of our students, completed in the Mathematical Posters Competition, a UB Business Conference, held a charitable food fundraiser (run by Grade 4) for Water Wells for Africa and we also have our Senior Sports Day.

This last is on Friday morning ahead of the short Easter break which we name after St. George (he famous for slaying the Dragon in legend and the Patron Saint of England). On that day, school breaks up at 12:00pm and we resume on Tuesday 23rd April, celebrating Shakespeare’s 455th Birthday along the way. Once returned, the big Exams’ Season looms close and the weeks ahead will race along with little let-up.

A Happy Easter and pleasant weekend to everyone.

Regards,
Graham Hill
