10 January 2019

Dear Parents,

Term 3 is underway with a full Calendar (the Draft of which is attached and on our website) and much to do over the next 8 weeks.

We are already into a series of Meetings for Parents, Students and Teachers centered on Grade 10 and the upcoming Cambridge IGCSE Exams. Next week, Grades 11 and 12 embark on the 2 week Nalaikh Intensive Study Programme. The Junior School is engaged in a series of Primary Years Programme (PYP) Workshops as we move towards introducing the IB in these Classes. Please see the Calendar for this Term’s Parents’ Evenings, running for every Grade in the School on February 20 and 21.

A Pleasure to welcome a Volleyball Team from Irkutsk to take part in a Tournament at ESM this week, also involving ASU and RIS (School No.3) from UB. We have already had a return invitation to take a team to Russia; well done to their Captain who was judged Best Player in the Tournament. School Number 3 won the Tournament narrowly, with ESM Second. Some good Football in the holidays just past too, with our Girls Under 15 placing 1st in the Bayanzurkh District Football Competition.

Plans are going ahead for a Debating Competition to be held at ESM this Term. With Guests including teams from many of the UB International and State Schools. In March, we have the 2019 Model UN Conference, following on from the great success of the event (again run by our school) the previous year.

2 of the 4 Performances of the Musical “Carousel” will be held to support local charities, as our Company next month takes to the stage of the State Opera House in Sukhbaatar Square where we have been performing since 2013. In the first week of the holidays, ESM Players leave for Bangkok and Rayong in Thailand, taking the show to 4 FOBISIA Schools.

So, plenty to keep us busy in the next 2 months and, as usual, please see our Facebook page ( for up-to-date photos and information.

Friday, as our New Year’s Resolution, we hope the whole ESM Family will work towards a more Ecologically Sustainable World. Please help us in practical terms: by seeking to restrict the use of plastic containers and bottles and paper bags, at home and at School.

Happy New Year to Everyone!
