Newsletter 4

Dear Parents,

Fully into our stride now in Term 2 of the Year, ESM is its usual chock-a-block self, as a glance at the Calendar (attached) and the 2018-2019 Arts Calendar reveals.

We are very pleased to announce the appointment of Mrs. Varduhi Grigoryan-Avetisyan as Head of Junior School and we are already addressing a range of academic and curricular matters ahead of some possible changes in August 2019. Monday 29 and Tuesday 30 October sees Parents’ Meetings for Years 1 and 2 IB Diploma students as we move towards Mock Exams in Week 6.

We have just celebrated Halloween from Pre-School to Grade 12 level with 4 different Parties in the Dining Hall. This weekend is the Internal Chess Competition on Floor 3 and on Wednesday the Senior School ran an Inter-class Geography Competition (Round 2 in November: Students v. Staff Teams!). Very impressive results in the recent Chinese Dance Competition with ESM placed 3rd out of 22 Teams for Thousand-Hand Kwan-yin and Outstanding Award for Wa National Dance.

Our Sports Department has every reason to be proud of current results, spotlighted at Thursday’s Assembly: A Brief Summary would include:

UBAC Under 19 Girls Volleyball – Champions; UBAC Under 15 Girls Football – Champions; UBAC Under 15 Boys Football – Runners Up. Travelling to Beijing, our Under 11 Gymnastics Team participated in an Aerobics Gymnastics Competition organized by the Russian Gymnastics Federation; out of 15 teams in the Competition, ESM finished as Runners-Up.

And in the Junior Football, the ESM Under 11 Team has also been very busy, recording 3 wins and 1 draw in numbers played during the break. Unsurprisingly the Saturday Football Club at School is very popular.

Auditions have started for the ESM Players Production to be staged at the Opera House in February. The Musical this year is Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Carousel.

Next week is the Science Fair (both Middle and Senior School) in our Dining Hall and following that are three Mongolian Festivals in Week 3 in the Kublai Hall.

Parents, as always, very welcome to attend and, in any case, please follow ESM on
